MY ATLANTA CITY COUNCIL ENDORSEMENTS

Nearly half the council members are running unopposed. Click the following link to see my picks in the contested races, and some gratuitous stamps of approval in those that are uncontested.  http://www.sundaypaper.com/More/Archives/tabid/98/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/4617/City-Council-endorsements.aspx

For at least four years the City Council has been a disaster. The Council Members have been asleep at the switch, unaware of the issues, unable to make sensible decisions, and condescending about citizen involvement in the processes of government. A new Council needs to do far better and must aggressively deliver effective, transparent, and collaborative decisions. New Council Members such as Steve Brodie, Amir Farokhi, and Yolanda Adrean might make a real difference. And getting rid of some of the deadwood will also help. It's too bad more of today's Council Members are not leaving.

Stephanies Endorsement for District 6:

Steve Brodie came to 13th st to befriend the residents in opposing a high rise that exceeded existing regulations close to the park.

People thought he was here to help us. He came to a meeting to steer us in oppostion to the developer.

However once at City Hall we find him square in the developers lap! A large group of residents of 13th street on one side, and he and a whole group of imported non residents all in favor of the breaking of zoning regs on the other side. They even brought their kids all dressed up with buttons in favor and all....(puke). It appeared they were all promised free and discounted rents in this new wonderful monstrosity if they could get the council to ignore current zoning which clearly prohibited such a building on that site.

Now I read...

Which appears to confirm our suspitions...
C'mon Stephanie, theres time to change your endorsement! I'm certain who I'm voting for but I do know who I'm NOT voting for!

I was at the first neighborhood meeting held to discuss an application by the developer to rezone 13th street in Midtown. Brodie was invited to attend and speak. During his speech he represented himself as being undecided and uncommitted on the rezoning issue. He proceeded to warn us that if we wanted to oppose the developer’s application, we would have a difficult task ahead, as the developer had undoubtedly been working behind the scenes for the past 6-8 months in preparation of submitting the rezoning application. Two weeks later I attended a Midtown Neighbors Association meeting. As Chairman of the Land Use Committee, Brodie then spoke passionately in favor of the rezoning application and proceeded to argue that he had volunteered the last 6 months of his time working with the developer to insure that the rezoning application would be approved. Needless to say, my neighbors and I had been had. Unfortunately this was just the first of many misrepresentations by Brodie I would witness during the six month conflict.
Several months after the zoning conflict Brodie sought to be elected Chairman of the NPU-E. This position is voted on by the twelve NPU-E board members, each of which is the designated representative of the various neighborhoods. I was not surprised when not a single one of his fellow board members raised their hand for Brodie. It appeared his reputation had caught up with him.
